Austria's new energy industry continues to expand, with photovoltaic (PV) power generation expanding and wind power generation shrinking, Austrian newspaper Der Standard reported on 12 October. According to a monitoring report released Thursday by Austrian energy regulator E-Control, by the end of 2022, Austria's installed renewable energy capacity will have increased by a net 2,141 megawatts (MW) compared to 2020, but electricity generation will have decreased by 3,611 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The share of renewables in the overall electricity mix is now stable at around 78 per cent due to falling electricity consumption. In order to achieve the goal that 100 per cent of the electricity supply should come from renewable sources by 2030, electricity generation from renewable sources would have to increase by 27 TWh per year. Photovoltaic power generation is currently above the set target, while wind power is below the target level due to an increase of only 211 megawatts (MW) in the previous year.
