French renewable energy giant Neoen to build 272MW solar park in Portugal 2023-01-05
Recently, French renewable energy giant Neoen began construction of the largest solar park in Portugal, with a scale of 272MW.

It is reported that the project will consist of two solar power plants, the Torre Bela solar farm (68MWp), which is wholly owned by Neoen, and the Rio Maior solar farm (204MWp), which is jointly owned with global renewable energy power plant developer Aura Power. It is located in Herdade da Torre Bela, in the municipality of Azambuja, 70 km north of Lisbon.

The design of the solar park is based on an average area of 20 hectares. The construction of the solar park was entrusted to Aldesa Construction Group as part of a "turnkey" EPC contract, and the solar park is scheduled to be operational in early 2024. Once operational, it is expected to generate more than 500 GWh of green energy per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 110,000 homes.

Approximately 80% of the energy will be purchased by the Portuguese government through two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs), which were won by Neoen and Aura Power in the 2019 renewable energy tender. These power purchase agreements will begin in 2025. The remaining energy, as well as the guarantee of origin, will be sold on the Portuguese electricity market.
